As we head into another busy stretch of events, we wanted to share a few important updates, reminders, and opportunities across The Golf Collective. Events are filling faster than ever, so please take a moment to read through the notes below.

⚠️ Platinum Event Payments & Waitlists (Important)

This applies specifically to Platinum member event registrations.

Platinum event payments are processed within 48 hours of the event start time.

For events with heavy waitlists, these payments may be attempted right at or close to that 48-hour window.

If a payment bounces or fails, the system will automatically remove that player from the confirmed list, and the next player on the waitlist will be moved in.

This isn’t punitive — it’s about giving all members a fair and equal opportunity to participate as events continue to fill quickly.

Reminder: You don’t always need to select Pay Later.

Choosing the Member registration option processes payment immediately and can help if you’re managing cash flow while still locking in your spot early.

⭐ Now’s the Time to Be Platinum

Priority access is becoming more valuable by the week.

• Meadow Springs sold out two weeks prior, and due to demand we were able to add two extra tee times

• Majors are filling fast — we’d strongly recommend jumping on those early

With tighter fields across the board, Platinum priority is making a real difference.

⛳ Heads Up – El Caballo Two Ball Ambrose (Discounted Entry)

El Caballo – Two Ball Ambrose

Just a heads up for those planning ahead.

The course has advised that the greens will have been cored ahead of this round. As a result, El Caballo have offered a heavily discounted rate, reducing member entry from $75.00 to $55.50.

When hosting weekly events, it’s inevitable we’ll occasionally run into a cored course. Credit to El Caballo for looking after us with a meaningful discount — and we’d love to show our support by turning up in numbers.

Already paid the full entry fee?

Please email us and we’ll organise a refund of the difference.

🤝 Sponsors Wanted – Help Keep Entry Fees Down

We’re currently looking for sponsors across the following events and series:

• Division 1 Championship

• Ladies Championship

• Match Play Series

• Outback Classic

• Rottnest Retreat

• Southern Swing

Sponsorship allows us to keep entry fees as low as possible while maintaining event quality.

🎥 345 Media – Supporting Member Businesses

If you’re looking for help getting your business or brand noticed on social media, 345 Media is here to help.

⛳ Tee Sheets & Tee Time Changes (Please Read)

We’ve received a few requests around shifting tee times, often when events are already close to full.

The new registration system is designed so members can select preferred tee times and playing partners upfront.

You can move into an available tee time if one opens up.

You cannot move into someone else’s allocated tee time.

Most members are using the system exactly as intended — locking in preferred times early.

We understand committing 2–4 weeks out isn’t always easy, but in Perth golf, early tee times are always at a premium.

Early bird gets the worm.

📘 Support for New & Improving Competition Golfers

We’re continuing to step up how we help members — particularly newer golfers — better understand competition golf.

If you’re unsure about rules, scoring, procedures, or just how things work on the day, please reach out.

🛍️ Online Shop – Restocked (For Now)

The online shop is fully stocked again:

Order now and you can collect at Meadow Springs this Sunday

(assuming they haven’t sold out by the time you order 😅)

👕 Shirt Sponsor Opportunity – Autumn 2026

We’re looking for a vehicle dealer to partner with us on our Autumn 2026 shirt release.

The partnership includes:

• Dealer logo on every new release shirt

• One of each style (up to 4)

• Optional vehicle displays at select events (including majors)

If this sounds like a fit, let’s chat.

🚫 Fair Play Reminder

Cheating will not be accepted — this applies to everyone, including VIP members.

Consequences may include:

• Cancellation of membership

• No refunds on any payments

• Loss of team points where applicable

We pride ourselves on running the most fair amateur golf competitions in Perth.

If you believe you’ve made a ruling or scoring error — or are questioned about one — the best approach is to talk about it, own it, and accept any penalty (if one applies).

It needs to be said.

💸 Referrals – Platinum Members

Referral credits are tracked via the “Referred By” field during sign-up.

Please ensure the person you refer enters your name in that field.

• $20 credit per successful referral

• Platinum members only (for now)

• Credit is applied automatically to your next renewal or event invoice

We’re working on expanding this to all members and will update everyone when that changes.

Thanks as always for being part of The Golf Collective and helping us continue to grow the right way.

See you on the course,

Ruben

The Golf Collective

Golf is a game of skill, strategy, and precision. For players of different abilities, competing fairly can be a challenge without a standardized system. That’s where the golf handicap comes in, ensuring a level playing field for all golfers, from beginners to professionals. In this guide, we’ll dive into why having a handicap is beneficial and answer essential questions like what should my handicap be, how long does it take to get a handicap, and more.

What is a Golf Handicap?

A golf handicap is a numerical measure that represents a golfer’s potential skill level. It helps players of different abilities compete fairly, by adjusting the number of strokes a golfer is allowed to take. In essence, the lower the handicap, the better the player.

For example, if Golfer A has a handicap of 5 and Golfer B has a handicap of 15, Golfer B will receive additional strokes to even out the competition, making it fair for both players.

Encourages Goal-Setting and Personal Challenges

For many golfers, lowering their handicap is a key goal. This system encourages players to focus on improving specific areas of their game and set personal goals. As you see your handicap drop, you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment that drives you to keep practising and improving your skills.

Facilitates Tournament Participation

Many tournaments require participants to have an official handicap. Without one, you might miss out on a wide range of opportunities to compete in organised events at local clubs, amateur competitions, or even larger tournaments. Having a handicap ensures you’re eligible for these events and that you can compete fairly.

Supports Strategic Course Management

Knowing your handicap also allows you to make smarter decisions on the course. Players with higher handicaps might focus on playing conservatively, while lower handicap golfers can take more risks. By integrating your handicap into your strategy, you’ll improve your overall performance and learn to manage the course more effectively.

What Should My Handicap Be?

One of the most common questions new golfers ask is, what should my handicap be? For beginners, it’s typical to start with a high handicap, such as 20-36 for men or 20-40 for women. As you gain experience and improve, your handicap will decrease.

For an average golfer, handicaps usually range between 10-20. Experienced players often have handicaps under 10, and professionals typically play with a handicap close to zero or even in the “plus” range. The goal is to keep improving your game and lowering your handicap over time.

How Long Does It Take to Get a Handicap?

A common query from new players is, how long does it take to get a handicap? Getting an official handicap typically requires submitting scores from 3 to 5 rounds of golf. These scores are used to calculate your handicap based on your performance and the difficulty of the courses you’ve played.

Once you’ve established a handicap, it will be updated as you play more rounds and submit additional scores. It’s essential to keep tracking your scores regularly to maintain an accurate handicap.

At The Golf Collective to establish a handicap, you’ll need to complete 54 holes. You can achieve this by playing three 18-hole rounds, six 9-hole rounds, or a combination of both. Ensure your scores are verified by a playing partner and submitted according to our straightforward guidelines. Be sure to keep your scorecard for each round.

How The Golf Collective Can Benefit You

You can submit all of the rounds you play, not just at your ‘home course’. You can play at any course recognized for handicapping, and your scores will still be valid. Our system allows you to enjoy golf wherever you choose while ensuring your handicap stays accurate and up to date.

Unlike clubs that rely on manual scorecards, our mobile scoring system offers a convenient, paperless solution for submitting your scores. This allows for quicker handicap updates and provides a more streamlined, modern golfing experience.

At The Golf Collective, you can enjoy a social round anytime, anywhere, and still have it count toward your handicap. Our flexible system lets you play on your schedule while keeping your handicap accurate and up to date.
