Another big week across The Golf Collective, with plenty happening both on and off the course. We’ve pulled everything together below so you can stay in the loop without having to hunt for info.

🤝 New Naming Rights Sponsors – Big News

We’re proud to officially welcome our naming rights sponsors across our top four series:

  • Cup Race – proudly sponsored by Wilson Australia
  • Ambrose Series – proudly sponsored by Signature Golf
  • Teams Championship – proudly sponsored by Honda
  • Majors Series – proudly sponsored by The Golf Club Co.

We’ve also got a strong list of additional sponsors to announce soon — stay tuned.

If you’re interested in getting your business noticed through our community and social channels, you can view sponsorship options here:

👩‍🦰 Ladies 9-Hole Events – Starting Soon

Our Ladies 9-hole events kick off on Saturday, 21 February.

If interest continues to build, we’re planning to launch a Ladies 9-hole mini-season series from June 1.

Ladies — we’d love you to get around these events and bring your friends along. These rounds are open to both members and non-members, so it’s a great way to introduce others to the TGC community.

👕 On-Course Presentation Reminder

As part of our community and club guidelines, a quick reminder around on-course presentation.

Please ensure your shirt is tucked in when entering the premises — not just once you reach the tee.

Trust us… it’s far less awkward being reminded by us than by a course official or marshal.

🚗 Golf Carts – Please Read

Carts must be pre-booked. Please don’t assume availability on the day.

Events where carts are included are clearly labelled.

For all other events:

  • Carts are subject to availability
  • Payment is made directly at the pro shop on the day

⛳ Tee Sheets & Open Registration

For standard season events, tee sheets are now using the “open registration” model, giving you more control than ever over:

  • Your tee time
  • Your starting hole
  • Who you play with

Majors (and special events) are the only events where the tee sheet is arranged by us, as we need to maintain fairness and the integrity of the competition.

⏱️ Pace of Play – First Groups Matter

A reminder for those teeing off early.

Not all courses will call groups onto the tee — being on time and ready is crucial.

Many players would have felt the slowness on the back nine yesterday, and that flow-on effect starts with the pace set by the first few groups. Early groups set the tone for the entire field.

🏷️ Bag Tags – A Quick Update

Two years ago we couldn’t give these away… fast forward to today and bag tags are #1 on member’s hot list 😅

We’ve noticed a few members reaching out saying they never received theirs — first of all, sorry about that. We’ve tightened up our processes to avoid this moving forward.

  • If you’ve already spoken to one of our team, there’s nothing you need to do

Bag tags are free for GOLD and PLATINUM members. Social members, unfortunately your membership tier does not include a bag tag.

🧤 Signature Golf Gloves – Easy Purchase Options

You can now purchase Signature Golf gloves direct from us:

  • On event day at the registration desk
  • Or ask us to charge it to your card we have on file

The gloves are amazing and available not just in Men’s and Women’s, but also BLACK! Get yours today!

📊 Social Scoring – Course List Update

Due to recent Golf Australia system updates, we’ve been experiencing “timeout” issues caused by the sheer number of courses we have loaded. This not something members will notice, but what you will have noticed is the limited number of courses we now have loaded in the app.

We’re uniquely one of the only clubs in Australia offering this level of social scoring flexibility (which GA has… let’s say… taken inspiration from, but won’t allow us full access to…. no comment…).

If a course you frequently play isn’t appearing in the list, email us and we’ll get it added.

🎙️ Podcast (Talk Show) & YouTube – Thank You

We’ve officially tipped over 300 subscribers — thank you for the support!

We also love seeing your content, so don’t forget to tag us when you post. If you do, we’ll always share it.

Missed our latest episode? It’s well worth a watch!

💬 Got Feedback?

We’re constantly looking to improve — but we can’t do that without hearing from you.

If you’ve got feedback, ideas, or suggestions, we’d genuinely love to hear them.

Thanks again for being part of The Golf Collective and helping shape what we’re building!

See you out there,

Ruben

Golf is a game of skill, strategy, and precision. For players of different abilities, competing fairly can be a challenge without a standardized system. That’s where the golf handicap comes in, ensuring a level playing field for all golfers, from beginners to professionals. In this guide, we’ll dive into why having a handicap is beneficial and answer essential questions like what should my handicap be, how long does it take to get a handicap, and more.

What is a Golf Handicap?

A golf handicap is a numerical measure that represents a golfer’s potential skill level. It helps players of different abilities compete fairly, by adjusting the number of strokes a golfer is allowed to take. In essence, the lower the handicap, the better the player.

For example, if Golfer A has a handicap of 5 and Golfer B has a handicap of 15, Golfer B will receive additional strokes to even out the competition, making it fair for both players.

Encourages Goal-Setting and Personal Challenges

For many golfers, lowering their handicap is a key goal. This system encourages players to focus on improving specific areas of their game and set personal goals. As you see your handicap drop, you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment that drives you to keep practising and improving your skills.

Facilitates Tournament Participation

Many tournaments require participants to have an official handicap. Without one, you might miss out on a wide range of opportunities to compete in organised events at local clubs, amateur competitions, or even larger tournaments. Having a handicap ensures you’re eligible for these events and that you can compete fairly.

Supports Strategic Course Management

Knowing your handicap also allows you to make smarter decisions on the course. Players with higher handicaps might focus on playing conservatively, while lower handicap golfers can take more risks. By integrating your handicap into your strategy, you’ll improve your overall performance and learn to manage the course more effectively.

What Should My Handicap Be?

One of the most common questions new golfers ask is, what should my handicap be? For beginners, it’s typical to start with a high handicap, such as 20-36 for men or 20-40 for women. As you gain experience and improve, your handicap will decrease.

For an average golfer, handicaps usually range between 10-20. Experienced players often have handicaps under 10, and professionals typically play with a handicap close to zero or even in the “plus” range. The goal is to keep improving your game and lowering your handicap over time.

How Long Does It Take to Get a Handicap?

A common query from new players is, how long does it take to get a handicap? Getting an official handicap typically requires submitting scores from 3 to 5 rounds of golf. These scores are used to calculate your handicap based on your performance and the difficulty of the courses you’ve played.

Once you’ve established a handicap, it will be updated as you play more rounds and submit additional scores. It’s essential to keep tracking your scores regularly to maintain an accurate handicap.

At The Golf Collective to establish a handicap, you’ll need to complete 54 holes. You can achieve this by playing three 18-hole rounds, six 9-hole rounds, or a combination of both. Ensure your scores are verified by a playing partner and submitted according to our straightforward guidelines. Be sure to keep your scorecard for each round.

How The Golf Collective Can Benefit You

You can submit all of the rounds you play, not just at your ‘home course’. You can play at any course recognized for handicapping, and your scores will still be valid. Our system allows you to enjoy golf wherever you choose while ensuring your handicap stays accurate and up to date.

Unlike clubs that rely on manual scorecards, our mobile scoring system offers a convenient, paperless solution for submitting your scores. This allows for quicker handicap updates and provides a more streamlined, modern golfing experience.

At The Golf Collective, you can enjoy a social round anytime, anywhere, and still have it count toward your handicap. Our flexible system lets you play on your schedule while keeping your handicap accurate and up to date.
